Types Of Code-Switching Found In Maudy Ayunda’s Utterances

Abstract

This research examine Code-Switching found in Maudy Ayunda’s utterances in Gita Wirjawan’s podcast. The objectives of this study are to find out the types and functions of code-switching found in Maudy Ayunda’s utterances. Therefore, this study uses the theory of Wardhaugh and Baker. This study was conducted using descriptive qualitative method. The data of this study are Maudy Ayunda's utterances from Gita Wirjawan’s podcast entitled Maudy Ayunda: Kartini Modern Berani Tantang Status Quo. The results show that there are two types and ten functions of code-switching found in Maudy Ayunda’s utterances. The types of code-switching found are situational code-switching and metaphorical code-switching. Meanwhile, the functions of code-switching are emphasize, substitute the words, unequal, reinforce a request, repetition, relate conversations, interjecting a conversation, change attitude or relationship, exclude people from a conversation, and the emergence of particular topics.
